Counseling Services
Individiual Counseling
Individual counseling is one-on-one counseling with a student for a number of school-related problems. This can include difficulty in the classroom, academic struggles, friendship conflicts, career interests, adjusting to a new school, etc. We are also available to meet with students who have experienced a crisis. Individual counseling is not offered on an on-going basis. If long-term counseling is needed, we are available to provide outside referrals.
Small Group
School counselors form need-based groups that involve a counselor working with two or more students (approx. 4-8). Small groups typically meet on a weekly basis for approximately 4-8 sessions. Some of the topics that might be addressed include Anger Management, Friendship and Social Skills, Leadership and Teamwork, Grief, Self-esteem, etc.
Classroom Guidance
Students may receive a series of classroom guidance lessons that include lessons that are preventative in nature. The goal is to promote and help students develop self-knowledge, effective communication skills, coping skills and problem-solving techniques. These topics may include Understanding Feelings, Diversity, Personal Safety, Bullying Prevention, etc.
Parent Consultation
School counselors are also available for parents if you have a concern that might be affecting your child's school performance. We provide consultation and assistance for parents on an as-needed basis.
